Declare your Independence this Holiday and set the example!

We do this all the time. Start a weight loss or fitness program and then bam, get side tracked by a holiday. As Americans, holidays seem to mean "overindulge" but why do we do that?

I have been in the health and fitness business since 1985 and it seems to me, when I look around, things have got worse not better when it comes to obesity and being out of shape.

And believe me, I get it. Life is full of twists, turns and challenges. I never imagined myself being overweight and out of shape as a 48 year old fitness professional.

Especially as a Dad, I look at kids and wonder what kind of example are we setting.

When I was in my twenties, once again, I didn't care, but some little switch happens, maybe in my 30's, for sure in my 40's where you start to go with the flow of everyone else and you get tired of the people that sit there and judge you for being so healthy. Crazy, isn't it?

So it is time to set the example. Declare your independence of what other people think and take some time to watch your calorie intake and get out and move!

I can here the nay sayers... "Come on, have a drink with us. Have some potato salad!"

As I have told my clients so many times just say, "Thanks, but no thanks. I am good!"
